Don Carlos Marbella

Plan your stay at Don Carlos Marbella, a 5-star beachfront hotel in Elviria for Costa del Sol golf holidays with Rio Real, Marbella Golf and 30+ courses.

Luxury Beachfront Resort

Don Carlos Marbella sits on the first line of the beach at Elviria, ten minutes east of the town centre and roughly forty minutes down the AP-7 from Málaga. The property spreads across seven hectares of subtropical gardens, with private steps onto a long, quiet stretch of sand that has held Blue Flag status for more than three decades. Jaime Beriestain's 2022 refit reworked the public rooms, restaurants and pool areas into something calmer and more residential, while keeping the original low-rise footprint intact.

All 220 rooms and suites carry a private balcony or terrace. Deluxe categories face either the gardens or the pool with the sea beyond, while Premium rooms on the top two floors hold an uninterrupted view down the coast towards Gibraltar on a clear morning. Suite layouts run from junior sea-view rooms up to two-bedroom Premium suites with enough lounge space to seat a four ball for a late drink. Every bathroom was retiled during the refit, USB sockets sit next to each bed, and the wardrobes are deep enough to swallow a golf travel cover without moving the furniture around. Rollaways and interconnecting doors are held back for families and for groups sharing a floor.

Golf on the Costa del Sol

The address earns its place on any golf itinerary because Rio Real Golf sits five minutes west, Marbella Golf and Country Club is ten minutes inland, and more than thirty Costa del Sol courses fall inside a forty-five minute drive. The list runs east through Cabopino, Santa Clara and Santa María, and west through the Nueva Andalucía cluster of Los Naranjos, Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, Aloha Golf Club and La Quinta Golf, then on into the Guadalhorce valley. Mijas Golf, El Chaparral, La Cala Resort and Greenlife all slot inside twenty-five to thirty minutes for groups who want to rotate outside Marbella itself. Our directory of Costa del Sol golf courses lays out the full driving picture.

Most groups build the trip one of three ways. A three-night short break covers two rounds and a rest day on the sand. Five nights runs three or four courses at a workable pace, with an evening in Puerto Banús or the Old Town. Seven nights opens up the whole coast, taking in the Elviria courses, moving through Marbella and pushing as far west as Sotogrande if the group wants the drive. The hotel absorbs four-balls, sixteen-strong societies and mixed golfing families with the same practised ease, and six restaurants mean nobody has to leave the resort every night.

March into early June, and mid-September into November, deliver the most reliable combination of playing temperature and course condition. Winter still throws up plenty of playable days at Rio Real, Cabopino and Santa Clara, and green-fee rates soften noticeably between December and mid-February.

Facilities, Dining and Relaxation

Six restaurants across the property mean a five- or seven-night stay never doubles back on itself. Los Naranjos is the signature indoor room, working a short seasonal Andalusian menu with a well-chosen local wine list. Sol y Sombra sits under the pines by the pool and cooks over charcoal at lunch. Oasis Kitchen handles the breakfast buffet and casual dinners, while Manero Marbella is a Barcelona import running cured meats and vermouth. The two beach clubs, Lucia Beach Club and Nikki Beach Marbella, work day into night on the sand between April and October. A pool bar, a lobby bar and 24-hour in-room service fill the gaps.

On-site facilities go well past the standard gym-and-sauna combination. The Don Carlos Spa covers 2,000 square metres and houses an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy circuit and a full treatment menu. The fitness room next door is properly kitted for anyone maintaining a training block between rounds. The Rafa Nadal Tennis Center runs eight clay courts, four paddle courts and clinics for adults and juniors, which is a genuinely rare on-property draw for non-playing partners. Three outdoor pools sit between the gardens and the beach, with one heated through the shoulder months, and the Kids Club and teenage lounge keep multi-generation groups occupied.

Marbella evenings run late without turning loud. Old Town squares fill after ten, Nikki Beach hosts DJ sessions on Sunday afternoons through the summer, and Puerto Banús is a ten-minute taxi for anyone chasing the marina view.
